Late in the evening, the quiet of the hospital was broken only by the faint hum of fluorescent lights when the glass doors suddenly swung open. A thin, fragile boy of about nine stepped inside. His clothes were old and far too large for his small frame,
as if both time and life had already begun to weigh heavily on him. His face was pale, lips trembling, and he instinctively clutched his stomach, as though the pain there consumed all his strength.
— My… stomach… it really hurts… — he whispered, barely audible. The nurse at the reception stiffened in surprise. The boy had come entirely alone. There was no one to hold his hand, no comforting presence nearby.
She immediately called the doctor on duty, and the boy was escorted to the examination room. The doctor, trying to remain calm despite a growing sense of dread, attempted to extract some information:

— What’s your name? Where are your parents? Did you fall? Did you hurt yourself? The boy only shook his head slowly, his eyes filled with a fear that seemed foreign, almost unnatural. And he repeated:
— My stomach… it hurts… a lot… There was no mention of a mother, a father, or a home. It was as if he feared that speaking the truth aloud would bring more harm than silence.
The doctors acted quickly. Worried by his condition, they ordered urgent tests and a full X-ray. When the images appeared on the screen, everyone in the room froze in horror: a long metal object was clearly visible inside the boy’s intestines.
— A nail… — muttered one of the surgeons, hardly believing his eyes. The boy was immediately prepared for surgery. The surgeons moved with extreme caution; a single wrong motion could cause severe internal bleeding.
When the rusty, sharp nail was finally removed and held in the surgeon’s hand, the team exhaled in collective relief. By a miracle, the boy had survived.Yet the biggest questions remained unanswered: how could a nine-year-old child swallow a nail?

After the operation, a psychologist and social worker tried to speak with him. At first, the boy remained silent, stubbornly staring at the floor. Then, in a trembling, barely audible voice, he said:
— My dad said… I have to… if I don’t, something bad will happen…
The doctors exchanged glances. Slowly, from fragments of his speech, a horrifying picture began to emerge. It turned out that the boy’s father had forced him to swallow various objects — nails, screws, even spoiled food.
He filmed all of it on his phone and posted it online to make money from views and “likes.” The boy cried as he recounted that each “task” ended in pain, but he never dared to disobey. Fear and coercion had entirely suppressed his childlike spirit; day after day, he endured in silence just to survive.
The story shocked the hospital staff. The police and child protection services were called immediately. The father was arrested, and the boy was placed in a safe environment where he could finally receive the protection and care he desperately needed.
In the quiet of the night, under the harsh fluorescent light, the boy finally breathed without fear. The tears slowly streaming down his face were proof that, for the first time in a long while, he felt safe enough to let go. He had a long road ahead to heal, but at least now he was not alone.
