Virsaviya Borun: Heart on the Outside, Will to Live on the InsideVirsaviya Borun is just 14 years old, yet she has already shown the incredible power of determination and the love of those around her.
She was born with an extremely rare condition – her heart beat outside of her chest. This anomaly, occurring in less than one in a million births, left doctors from the very beginning with almost no hope for her survival.
The prognosis was harsh: they warned that Virsaviya might not live to see her thirtieth birthday.Yet her mother, Dari, never lost hope. Every single day, she believed that her daughter would continue to surprise doctors and defy the statistics.

Virsaviya has no natural protection for her heart – the absence of a chest wall and abdominal muscles means her heart rests directly under her skin, exposed to every potential injury. Even during pregnancy, doctors warned Dari of the worst-case scenario, suggesting that her baby might not survive childbirth.
Instead of succumbing to despair, Dari decided to share her daughter’s story on social media. She posts pictures of Virsaviya in everyday life, her heart visibly exposed, while her joy and energy radiate from her smile.
Virsaviya loves to dance, draw, ride a pony, and listen to Beyoncé. While running is limited for her, she tries to stay active in every way possible, always wearing soft protective clothing to safeguard her heart.
“The doctors said she wouldn’t survive even a single day, and now she’s fourteen,” Dari recalls. While the statistics remain unforgiving, the mother believes her daughter will continue to defy medical expectations.

Virsaviya herself doesn’t credit miracles for her survival – she says it is her mother’s love and support that made the difference. “It’s not a miracle; it’s the love of my mom,” she emphasizes. “She believed in me, and I think that’s what matters most.”
The girl lives with Pentalogy of Cantrell, a rare condition affecting only one in a million children. Even so, her heart does not cause her pain or limit her daily activities. Every movement must be careful, however – even the smallest injury near the chest could be dangerous.
That’s why Virsaviya always wears a special protective shield over her heart.Living with a heart on the outside is not easy. Both Virsaviya and her mother sometimes worry about her health. Yet she refuses to let her uniqueness hold her back.

“Sometimes I feel weak when my oxygen drops, but I love being active, singing, and dancing with my friends,” she says. Her story inspires thousands on social media. “My heart is different from most, but that makes me special, and I value that very much,” she adds.
To date, around 250 cases of Pentalogy of Cantrell have been documented worldwide. Virsaviya has no intention of giving up a life full of passion, joy, and movement. Her family, despite the challenges, remains positive and supports her every step of the way.
Virsaviya’s story shows that determination, love, and a positive mindset can work miracles. Her experience teaches us that diversity and uniqueness can be a source of strength. She has become an inspiration to many – proof that even in the face of extremely rare and complex conditions, life can be full of hope, passion, and activity.
